About the Progressive Educators Network

The Progressive Educators Network is a community of like-minded educators, academics and policy makers. While we may have many different roles in a wide range of organisations, and while our approaches and perspectives will be varied, the community shares a common belief that our mainstream approach to education requires fundamental transformative change in response to the demands of contemporary society.

Given the challenges we face, education doesn't need to be reformed - it needs to be transformed.

As Sir Ken Robinson (quoted above, from his book The Element) suggests, we believe that this change should not be in the form of increasing standardisation, testing regimes and 'teacher-proof' back-to-basics curriculum reform. Rather we see passionate educators as the key, employing richer pedagogy and innovative methodologies, built on the foundation of humanistic child-centred approaches.

The network is an initiative of the Schoolhouse Centre for Progressive Education - a non-profit organisation based in Sydney, Australia. For more information contact Brett Rolfe, our executive director.
